WASHINGTON, April 18 – API awarded its 2006 Distinguished Award for Outstanding Safety and Environmental Performance to Marathon Pipe Line LLC, an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation.  Joe Baker, President, Marathon Pipe Line LLC, accepted the award today at API’s 58th annual pipeline conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

One of the nation’s largest transmission pipeline companies, Marathon Pipe Line LLC earned the award based on its release performance per mile of pipeline operated as reported to the API Pipeline Performance Tracking System, its low rate of safety incidents, its community outreach efforts, its strong integrity management program, its impressive commitment to training, and its effective use of advanced technology.

Enbridge (U.S.) Inc. won the separate environmental performance award for large operators with the best combined record of spills/volume released per pipeline mile.  Three pipeline companies in the small operator category also received environmental awards, each reporting no releases, including Equistar Chemicals, LP – A Lyondell Company, Portland Pipe Line Corporation, and PPL Interstate Energy.

Colonial Pipeline Company won the occupational safety performance award for large operators.  In the small operator category, five companies shared that honor, including Belle Fourche Pipeline Company, Ciniza Pipe Line Company, CITGO Pipeline Company, Portland Pipe Line Corporation, and Wyoming Pipeline Company.
