Appreciation of an area's culture and history are key factors in protecting habitat and other resources. In Canada's Northwest Territories, Anadarko operates in the Mackenzie River Delta, which is an Arctic region that's home to native communities such as the Alkavik, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk communities. Anadarko and other operators have participated in studies designed to minimize environmental impacts and disturbance to culturally and historically significant areas.
Information gathered and assessed in the Biophysical and Heritage Resources Survey of the Mackenzie Delta Region is providing up-to-date baseline information for environmental planning and cultural preservation.
The study included repeated consultation with the native communities, provincial agencies, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and others to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders were considered.
Anadarko's participation in such studies demonstrates our commitment to the Environmental, Health and Safety Stewardship initiative of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. As a gold-level participant in this voluntary program, Anadarko is actively measuring our corporate systems and procedures to promote continuous improvement.
