Marathon employees are often recognized for their service and their skills as was evidenced in an employee’s recent participation in the development of a Mutual Aid 'Resource Typing' initiative for response to chemical, biological and weapons of mass destruction incidents. Serving as the industry representative on the U.S. Coast Guard’s Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee, a Marathon employee helped the group identify, review and make recommendations on industry standards for hazardous substance response organizations. The on-going initiative is headed by FEMA for the Office of Homeland Security. Recognizing his efforts, the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard awarded the Marathon employee with the Meritorious Public Service Award.
