Since September 1997, Petro-Canada’s Montreal refinery has been involved in an environmental management and co-operation project with the Quebec Ministry of the Environment and the Montreal Urban Community’s Environment Department.
The three-year agreement, renewed in December 2001, is based on a common resolve to work together to incorporate sustainable development principles and practices in refinery operations. Its broad objective is environmental protection through prevention, optimal resource management, reduction of discharges and respect for the environment.
The project is implemented through voluntary actions to address environmental performance in the areas of water, air, residual material, soils and groundwater. An annual report is published to report on refinery discharges and to assess the progress of activities stipulated in the action plan.
