Colonial Pipeline has surpassed 10 million hours of employees working without a lost-time injury. This safety milestone represents more than seven years of employees working safely. During this time period, Colonial safely completed a number of major construction projects and weathered four historic hurricanes. Colonial programs to protect the pipeline and people represent a company-wide expenditure of more than $75 million every year.
On matters of pipeline and employee safety, refined petroleum product pipelines answer to the U. S. Department of Transportation, the Department of Labor and the Environmental Protection Agency as well as a variety of state agencies.
Colonial’s commitment to safety is reflected in past API awards for Distinguished Safety and Environmental Performance and in 2009 received industry awards from API for zero OSHA lost-time and/or restricted work injuries, most improved employee safety performance, and vehicle safety.
