Sequestering Carbon Dioxide

Anadarko's enhanced oil recovery efforts in Wyoming are breathing new life into aging oil fields by injecting into the reservoir CO2 that otherwise would have been vented into the atmosphere. The company expects to sequester about 29 million tons of CO2 over the lifetime of its Salt Creek and Monell projects, thereby reducing overall CO2 emissions in the State. This major geological sequestration, which is being conducted primarily on federal acreage, will be one of the largest projects of its kind in the world.

As one of the largest owner of private minerals in the West, Anadarko has decades of experience working closely with governmental agencies to comply with federal regulations and to safeguard wildlife as well as historical artifacts. For example, Anadarko hires independent wildlife consultants to help guide us in selecting locations that will have the least impact on wildlife and their habitats. Archaeologists help us identify any sensitive historical features. Minimizing impacts on the environment may also include properly limiting activities to protect migratory and nesting birds or birthing seasons of animals, or modifying the design of our facilities to lessen visual impact.
