Rigs to Reef Program on the Texas Gulf Coast
Some offshore platforms never die. They just sink into the sea and become ecological assets. The massive steel structures jutting from blue waters in the Gulf of Mexico can serve dual lives. For years, they recover oil and natural gas far below the ocean floor. When the reserves are gone, many cycle to a new phase as underwater refuges for red snapper, king mackerel, cobia, shark and an assortment of other marine life.

Promoting Energy Education in our Schools
Devon partners with the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB) in classrooms throughout Oklahoma to present the OERB’s Petro Pros program. Petro Pros is designed to educate students about oil and natural gas, provide an in-depth look at real-world operations and emphasize the significance of energy in our state. Devon employees volunteer their time to visit Oklahoma classrooms. During their presentations, Petro Pros use rocks, fossils, drill bits and maps to demonstrate how oil and natural gas are formed, discovered and produced.

TCU Energy for Frogs Program
Kids are hopping for math and science in north Texas thanks to Devon’s TCU Energy for Frogs Program. In 2008, more than 420 students from 10 schools participated in Devon’s partnership program with Texas Christian University that educates middle school students about the oil and gas industry. Students were quizzed over the industry material they learned, and those with the highest scores were given the opportunity to enjoy TCU Horned Frogs football games from Devon seats. Getting students excited about math and science, as well as learning about energy is the goal of this partnership.

Wise Eyes Protecting Communities from Crime
Born of the desire to give back to the community, Devon Energy Corporation helped found Wise Eyes to assist local law enforcement in Wise County, Texas near Fort Worth. Being responsible for the transportation and treatment of the county’s natural gas reserves means having lots of employees on the county roads driving to and from job sites daily. Using their presence in the community as a resource, Devon employees are able to serve as extra eyes and ears in the community where law enforcement officers can’t always be.
