API 2009 Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement

WASHINGTON, October 19, 2009 - Ray L. Hunt, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Hunt Consolidated Inc. and chairman and chief executive officer of Hunt Oil Company and other related companies, is the recipient of the American Petroleum Institute 2009 Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement.

The award, API’s highest honor, recognizes leaders who have made substantial contributions to the oil and natural gas industry throughout their careers. This year’s award was presented on Sunday, October 18, during the API Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas.

Under his leadership, Hunt Oil Company, a privately-held exploration and production company, has become one of the world’s leading independent energy companies. The company, its subsidiaries and affiliated entities, engages in oil and natural gas exploration and production operations in the United States, Canada, Yemen, Peru, and a number of other countries. In addition, Hunt Oil Company is integrally involved in the startup of major liquefied natural gas projects in Yemen and Peru.

Hunt’s more than a half century of service to Hunt Oil Company began with work as a summer employee in the oil fields in 1958. He became president and chief executive officer of Hunt Consolidated, Inc., and chief executive officer of Hunt Oil Company in 1976.

Hunt has served on API’s Board of Directors since 1983, and on the Policy Committee since 1988, including membership on the Executive Committee from 1989 to 1995. In addition, he served as chairman of the National Petroleum Council and president of the Domestic Petroleum Council, the Dallas Petroleum Club and the Dallas Wildcat Committee.

In 2001 and again in 2006, President George W. Bush appointed Hunt to the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

Hunt also served on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas beginning in 1998 and served as its chairman for four years.

Active in civic affairs, Hunt has served as chairman of the board of trustees of Southern Methodist University, chairman of the Dallas Citizens Council, and chairman of the North Texas Commission. He is currently chairman of Dallas Medical Resource.

API is the industry’s national trade association that represents all aspects of America’s oil and natural gas industry. Its nearly 400 corporate members, from the largest major oil company to the smallest of independents, come from all segments of the industry. They are producers, refiners, suppliers, liquid pipeline operators and marine transporters, as well as service and supply companies that support all segments of the industry.
