  • New Study Raises Additional Concerns with Rapid E15 Introduction

    WASHINGTON, August 31, 2010 – Various industry groups are urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to refrain from making a decision on the use of increased levels of ethanol in gasoline until testing on the effects of higher-level blends is complete. Based on the findings by Sierra Research in a report commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute (API), “Identification and Review of State/Federal Legislative and Regulatory Changes Required for the Introduction of New Transportation Fuels,” multiple regulatory and legal requirements remain and must be met before higher ethanol blends can be legally marketed for commercial introduction.

  • API expands access to its safety standards

    WASHINGTON, August 23, 2010—The American Petroleum Institute announced it would provide free online public access to a large group of key industry standards, including a broad range of safety standards.  This expands the number of API standards that will be available for free.  A smaller number are now available to the public for free on API’s website while others can be reviewed in person in government agency offices.

  • API: Weak gasoline demand reflects struggling economy

    WASHINGTON, August 20, 2010 – At 9.3 million barrels a day, U.S. gasoline deliveries (a measure of demand) fell slightly (0.03 percent) last month compared with July 2009, continuing weak deliveries for the first half of the year and mirroring the faltering U.S. economy. Except for 2008, it was the lowest July gasoline demand number since 2003.
