Shale Story - North Dakota

North Dakota is a model for development of the nation’s unconventional oil resources. Our energy producers have used horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to turn North Dakota into the nation’s third largest oil producer, trailing only Alaska and Texas. Oil production, mainly from the Bakken shale formation, has helped North Dakota add tens of thousands of jobs and provide a new, secure source of oil for American consumers.
