API: Increased use of natural gas contributing to reduction in carbon emissions

PHILADELPHIA, July 28, 2016 – In Pennsylvania, carbon emissions from electricity generation decreased by almost 20 percent from 2005-2014 due to increased use of clean-burning natural gas made possible by the technological advancements in hydraulic fracturing. API President and CEO Jack Gerard cited the increased use of natural gas as one driver of the decrease in emissions.

“America is leading the world in oil and natural gas production and in the reduction of carbon emissions which are near 20-year lows. Pennsylvania’s reduction in carbon emissions and surge in energy production show that we can produce more energy and lower carbon emissions here at home,” said Gerard. “We are second to no one on both.”
