AOPL-API comments in response to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”)
The Association of Oil Pipe Lines (“AOPL”) and the American Petroleum Institute (“API”) hereby submit comments in response to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”) issued by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (“PHMSA”) on August 13 2012, in the above-referenced proceeding. The NPRM contains a number of proposed revisions to the regulations concerning enforcement and regulatory procedures in response to the requirements of the Pipeline Safety Regulatory Certainty and Job Creation Act of 2011 (the “Safety Act”) and to clarify certain regulatory requirements.

Industry pursues pipeline safety as top priority
WASHINGTON, November 14, 2012 – API’s director of pipelines Peter Lidiak today said the U.S. pipeline industry is aggressively addressing safety issues in pursuit of continuous improvement and a zero incident safety record. They invested more than $1 billion on integrity management in 2011, according to an API and Association of Oil Pipe Lines survey, and they have just launched a multi-year, multimillion dollar research effort to improve in-line inspection tools.
