Jobs and energy security are the themes in a group of new television ads you'll be seeing soon. The point is clear: With access to energy from American sources our economy can grow, potentially generating 1 million additional jobs before the decade is out.
That Canada is our #1 source of imported oil is a big part of that scenario and is highlighted in one of the spots. With the right policies in place the United States' good energy relationship with Canada can be strengthened. That means full utilization of Canadian oil sands through projects like the Keystone XL that would deliver Albertan crude to U.S. refiners.
The potential result? By 2026, 100 percent of our liquid fuel needs could be supplied domestically and from Canada. Take a look:

Mark Green joined API after a career in newspaper journalism, including 16 years as national editorial writer for The Oklahoman in the paper’s Washington bureau. Previously, Mark was a reporter, copy editor and sports editor at an assortment of newspapers. He earned his journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma and master’s in journalism and public affairs from American University. He and his wife Pamela have two grown children and six grandchildren.
