In an editorial, WSJ comments on a bipartisan vote in the state assembly to defeat a ban on hydraulic fracturing: "...about one-third of the active wells now use this innovative drilling process... A moratorium would throw thousands of Californians out of work."

She notes that natural gas extraction and agriculture are compatible. “My husband and I love our land as only farmers can. Ken P. Cohen notes a New York Times study on tax rates across industries: The big energy firms paid the most taxes in absolute terms: Exxon $146 billion; Chevron $85 billion; and ConocoPhillips $58 billion. Oil and natural gas companies also paid among the highest effective tax rates.
