Thanks to Natural Gas …
Posted March 15, 2018
By now I hope you’ve seen API’s new national TV ad that is airing during NCAA basketball tournament games, touting the benefits of U.S. natural gas. Missed it? Take a look:
The ad’s message is as clear as America’s air: Thanks to increasing use of clean, affordable natural gas, U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide from electricity generation – a major source of the greenhouse gas – are at their lowest level in 25 years.
That’s an amazing development for a couple reasons. First, the United States has shown that you can have economic growth and increased energy output and significant emissions reductions. Historically, growth meant rising emissions. Natural gas has decoupled those trend lines; we don’t have to sacrifice growth for emissions progress.
Second, abundant natural gas, the leading fuel for electricity generation in the U.S., is helping consumers lower their energy costs. Affordable natural gas as a feedstock and power source has helped manufacturers lower their costs, too.
Third – and, you know, we could go on like this all day – natural gas is the key partner for growing renewable energy sources, providing power when intermittent sources aren’t available. Together, natural gas and renewables offer an energy pathway to the future.
All thanks to natural gas.
