Unleashing America's Energy Potential: 'Let's Do It!'

Our country is at a crossroads – an energy crossroads framed by global energy and security concerns. It has never been more important for America to lead on energy. Yet, too often lately, Washington policymaking has worked against that leadership instead of supporting it.
With the president’s State of the Union speech scheduled next Wednesday, now is the time for America’s leaders to come together on policies that support American natural gas and oil, recognizing – as a bipartisan group of lawmakers said recently – that American energy is national security.
Natural gas and oil producers are poised to do their part. Check out API’s action plan, as detailed in our 2023 State of American Energy report. We need to make more American energy, strengthen the infrastructure to move energy from where it is produced to where it is needed, and continue improving environmental performance.
But Washington must help, too.
In the video below, API President and CEO Mike Sommers outlines the energy challenges and solutions before America:
This from Sommers is worth repeating:
“We stand ready to answer the call to produce more energy and to make it better, safer and cleaner. But we need support from Washington. Either we strengthen our energy security, or we become increasingly reliant on unstable regions of the world for our energy. The solution is here, but only if we chart a path for it to succeed.”
America has the natural gas and oil, the professional workforce and technical expertise to lead on energy solutions to benefit families and businesses here at home while also helping friends abroad. American can and should lead.
Sommers:
“We can fix this together. America has enough resources to supply ourselves and our allies for decades to come. This wasn't always the case. For decades presidents of every political party have put a premium on producing more energy in America to make our country more self-sufficient. They know it's not just good for our country, but for the world. Yet, for some reason, policymakers in Washington are choosing another path, one with real consequences. Now is the time for Washington to help. Our industry is ready to do the work to Make, Move and Improve American energy. The solution is here in America.”
