Associated Press – Study Finds Fracking Chemicals Didn’t Contaminate Drinking Water

AP reports that the federal study on hydraulic fracturing found no evidence chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing moved up to taint drinking water aquifers at a western Pennsylvania drilling site. After a year of study researchers found chemicals in fracking fluids used to free trapped natural gas stayed thousands of feet below areas that supply drinking water.

Carpe Diem – North Dakota Sets Another Oil Production Record

Blogger Mark Perry comments on the latest oil production figures from North Dakota: 810,314 barrels per day in May – the 10th month in a row the state as pumped more than 700,000 bpd. Production increased almost 26 percent over May 2012, thanks to booming production from the Bakken shale.

The president: “Our work must begin by making some basic decisions about our budget – decisions that will have a huge impact on the strength of our recovery. … We are more than halfway towards the goal of $4 trillion in deficit reduction that economists say we need to stabilize our finances. Now we need to finish the job. And the question is, how?"

North Dakota celebrated its 60th year of oil production yesterday. On April 4, 1951, Amerada Corp. struck oil in Clarence Iverson's wheat field near Tioga, which eventually led to North Dakota becoming the 4th largest oil producing state in the country.

U.S. oil and natural gas drilling increased markedly in the third quarter this year, according to API's 2010 Quarterly Well Completion Report: Third Quarter. An estimated 11,297 oil wells, natural gas wells and dry holes were completed, which was 45 percent higher than during the same period in 2009.

A new Gallup poll shows Americans are divided down the middle over whether to lift the deepwater drilling moratorium. Overall, 47 percent of respondents say the ban should be lifted, while 46 percent say it should remain in place.
