Culture

API’s employees take pride in being part of a professional, diverse team advancing an important mission in a fast-paced, rewarding environment. API’s leadership understands the value of investing in the long-term success of each team member, and our employees are empowered by ample opportunities for achievement and advancement.

There is no better way to learn about the culture of API than to hear from current employees. Here is what our employees are saying:

"I have been in service at API for 12 years. I actually feel as if the company has serviced me. The tuition reimbursement program made it affordable to pursue and earn my MBA. Further, API believes in promoting from within, the more I give; the more I get. It’s a win-win!!" — Sharon B., Manager, 13 years of service
"It has been a great 16 years for me. I think the long tenure of API staff speaks to the work environment fostered by API." — Rolf H., Senior Director, 17 years of service
"Having worked with the organization for nearly three decades with many changes taking place across the US workforce, I can state that without exception API benefits have met or surpassed any benefits packages others have offered." — Dave M., Executive Director, 30 years of service
"API is a great place to work. The issues we work on are interesting, and the work we are doing matters. One of my main areas of focus is minority and female employment and STEM education. Helping people get good paying jobs, figuring out how to help more women and minority workers get into the industry, and encouraging more kids to focus on STEM disciplines are issues that are important to me, and matter in a huge way for the people we reach. When you know your work matters, and you’re supported by leaders who get that vision, you enjoy doing it." — Rebecca W., Analyst, 3 years of service

"We believe it’s more than just being a good neighbor"

Team API is a group of dedicated employees who facilitate API’s community outreach and coordinate our annual events. From charitable contributions to picking up a hammer, API staff members are committed to getting involved and making a difference.

Since 2011, API employees have contributed $180,000 to charities through Fueling our Community, API’s annual fundraising campaign. Annually, API sponsors 12 foster children in order to provide them a special holiday through the Holiday Wish List Program. From 2011 to 2013, API employees gave over $12,000 to support this program.

In addition to community outreach, Team API coordinates the annual summer picnic and holiday party.

The Washington Post named API as a “Top Employer” in Washington D.C.
