Source Inspector Certification Program

Coming Summer 2013

API is pleased to announce a new Certification Program for Source Inspectors.

About the Program

The Source Inspectors certification program, developed in cooperation with industry experts, qualifies individuals performing the important task of supplier quality surveillance. The Source Inspector has been defined as the individual responsible for examining fabricated and manufactured equipment, and materials at the supplier facility as well as confirming that the supplier’s quality management system is being utilized effectively. The individual performing this task may be a full-time employee of an end-user or a contractor. This basic program will test the applicants’ core knowledge in relevant standards/codes; inspection reference documents; manufacturing processes, and inspection tools and methods. The program is open to any applicant and there are no prequalification requirements.

Other, advanced examination modules targeting the inspection practices on specific and/or complex commodities are envisioned for the future.

Testing

Examinations for the Source Inspector Certification Program will be offered via a computer-based testing model. Computer-based testing offers applicants the flexibility of a testing date and the convenience to choose from several hundred testing centers around the world. The examination will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions and offered up to 4 times a year.

Program Fees

Basic program fee (covering an examination and 3 years of certification) is $400. Recertification will be required every three (3) years.
Full-time employees of API member companies receive a discounted fee of $300.
