Calgary Interfaith Food Bank

The Calgary Interfaith Food Bank depends on donations to distribute food hampers across the city. Hampers contain a week’s worth of groceries and are delivered primarily to the “working poor.” Hampers also exist for emergencies, the homeless, and households with babies.

For nearly 20 years, Petro-Canada employees and retirees have volunteered their time to this fundraiser. Volunteers contribute over 105,000 hours each year to ensure those hampers are accessible, and to ensure that information on community services and support is made available to individuals and families who are experiencing problems.

The Food Bank is constantly updating its programs and creating new and unique initiatives to raise awareness and much needed financial support. The organization does not have access to government funding but generates its own support through a number of fundraising events.

One of those events – the Petro-Canada/CBC Christmas Food Drive – is held annually in December and raises more than $400,000 worth of donations. Petro-Canada also makes annual donations of $5,000 in cash and $15,000 in gas coupons to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank.

For nearly 20 years, Petro-Canada employees and retirees have volunteered their time to this fundraiser, and have also supported the Food Bank at Stampede breakfasts, during an Easter Drive and through company T-shirt and poster sales.
