Energy Efficient Homes Initiative

Rebuilding Together

The Energy Efficient Homes Initiative is a national partnership between API and Rebuilding Together, the nation’s largest volunteer home rehabilitation organization devoted to revitalizing houses of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled or live with young children. The Initiative incorporates energy efficiency into home renovations to help homeowners save money by reducing their energy usage.

In addition to sponsoring energy efficiency demonstration projects in 23 communities across the U.S., the Initiative also extends to the nearly 10,000 homes that Rebuilding Together affiliates refurbish and revitalize each year thanks to their network of 270,000 volunteers nationwide. API’s sponsorship helps train the affiliates to include energy efficiency as a core component of their home renovation projects.  The two groups are also distributing efficiency information, consumer tips and checklists to low-income homeowners, volunteers and others nationwide.

Rebuilding Together’s central mission is to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners assuring that they live in warmth, safety, and independence.  Rebuilding Together operates through nearly 250 affiliates nationwide that served 1,879 communities across the country.  For more information on Rebuilding Together, please visit its website:  http://www.rebuildingtogether.org, and for more information about the Energy Efficient Homes Initiative please contact Rebecca Dobbins.
