Wise Eyes: Protecting Communities from Crime

Born of the desire to give back to the community, Devon Energy Corporation helped found Wise Eyes to assist local law enforcement in Wise County, Texas near Fort Worth. Being responsible for the transportation and treatment of the county’s natural gas reserves means having lots of employees on the county roads driving to and from job sites daily. Using their presence in the community as a resource, Devon employees are able to serve as extra eyes and ears in the community where law enforcement officers can’t always be.

Devon employees serving as patrols use report forms to record suspicious activity and are alerted by law enforcement when they need help locating crime suspects. The forms are then turned over to law enforcement to keep as a record available to officers. All employees of Wise Eyes are strongly discouraged from putting themselves in danger by approaching suspicious persons. By filling out reports and keeping in touch with radio and phone, Devon employees are able to use Wise Eyes as a way to help the community take back its peace of mind. Having found success in Wise County, Wise Eyes is now being implemented in several other counties.
