International Crane Foundation

EC Wetland Birds
ConocoPhillips is a supporter of International Crane Foundation (ICF), which is researching the migration of several species of cranes from their breeding grounds in the remote tundra of Yakutia in Siberia.

Among the species under study are Sand Hill Cranes that winter in the central United States and Siberian, Red-crowned and White-naped Cranes, which follow a different flyway across Russia to the Yangtze River Basin of southern China. On their route, the birds must travel across the densely populated areas including the western shore of the Bohai Bay, where ConocoPhillips is developing major oil discoveries.

The ICF has supported research in Tianjin City on Bohai Bay to help protect key crane areas in Tianjian City and other locations along the flyway. An education program for Tianjin City schools also is being developed.
