Minimizing Waste Through Recycling and Reuse

Kerr-McGee strives to reduce or eliminate waste from its operations on land and offshore by recycling and reusing materials in an economic and environmentally responsible manner. Through recycling and reuse, Kerr-McGee limits waste, protects the environment, improves efficiency of natural resources and makes a positive contribution to the community.

The following are a few examples of Kerr-McGee's recycling and reuse activities:

• Kerr-McGee reduces waste by innovating commercial applications for co-products, which in turn unlock new efficiencies and revenue streams. In pigment operations, for example, Kerr-McGee discovered new applications for co-products created during pigment production.
  
  
• U.S. pigment plants sell co-product acid for use in treating oil and gas wells. The Netherlands pigment plant recovers spent acid for reuse by the Germany pigment plant.
  
  
• Kerr-McGee routinely donates surplus materials and recycled products to local charitable organizations. In the North Sea, for example, Kerr-McGee donated surplus wood from our offshore platforms to a community enterprise in Scotland that employs learning-disabled citizens to make woodchips, furniture, birdhouses and picnic tables. Kerr-McGee also donated recycled paper and cardboard to another charitable organization that shreds paper for animal bedding.
