Alyeska Pipeline created the President’s Community Panel in 1999 to:
- provide a forum to familiarize Alaskans with Alyeska, its goal of operational excellence, operation of the system, and other company initiatives
- provide a forum for discussion of current and emerging issues with Alaskan community and “thought leaders”
- respond to community and stakeholder concerns and issues
- broaden opportunities for dissemination of information
When structuring this Panel, Alyeska looked for a diverse group of community and ”thought leaders” - individuals who reflect a cross-section of Alaskan communities and industries. The Panel has held quarterly meetings in Anchorage, Valdez, Cordova, and Fairbanks in addition to taking a day-long tour along the pipeline including visits at various pump stations. There are currently 14 individuals who serve on this panel.
President’s breakfasts with community and business leaders started approximately four years ago. They are held monthly and about 10 people from all aspects of the community (business, non-profits, civic organizations, students, etc.) attend each breakfast. The purpose of this breakfast is simple – it provides people an opportunity to get to know Alyeska Pipeline and to get to know community and business leaders. The format is very informal. These breakfasts have served not only as a wonderful connection to our community, but have proven very informative and helpful to us and to those who have attended.
It’s a priority in the company for senior managers to participate on community and civic boards of directors. Eighty percent of the President’s direct reports serve on boards ranging from The Nature Conservancy to Junior Achievement. Many managers serve on multiple boards.
