Environmental (Marine and Wildlife) Health and Safety Education Programs

The oil and natural gas industry operates in marine environments as locations for offshore exploration and production as well for transporting crude oil and refined products. This presence requires an ever greater need to know more about this natural environment to better protect and conserve it. The oil and natural gas industry collaborates with academic institutions, government agencies and non-governmental organizations to acquire knowledge about the marine environment and pass that knowledge on to students and teachers to sustain its conservation. ConocoPhillips supports Partners In Flight (PIF), a cooperative effort involving partnerships among many non-governmental organizations, private industry and governmental agencies that emphasizes the conservation of birds not covered by existing conservation initiatives. ConocoPhillips also supports The Nature Conservancy's efforts to restore the 38,000-acre Tallgrass Prairie in northeast Oklahoma, by co-sponsoring a three-part television series, "Oklahoma's Last Great Places." Petro-Canada has partnered with Destination Conservation to sponsor the delivery of a conservation initiative in British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec, which is a practical, student-driven, activity-based program bringing conservation alive within schools from kindergarten to Grade 12. The oil and natural gas industry also actively partners with institutions, communities and its workforce to educate on matters related with personal health and safety. For example, ConocoPhillips businesses and employees have developed programs to educate the community on safety, such as the Fire Safety House, which in the past 14 years has taught more than 1 million schoolchildren how to protect themselves and their families from fire.
