API’s annual Storage Tank Conference, preceded by a two-day Safe Tank Entry Workshop are educational programs that focus on the latest management practices for aboveground storage tanks.
API Safe Tank Entry Workshop
Attendees learn the basics of ensuring safe tank entry and maintenance. Topics cover tank decommissioning, isolation, degassing, safe tank entry, cleaning, return to service, and associated work. This hands-on program also provides an understanding of atmospheric monitoring, with instruction in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of field instruments that sample and analyze levels of oxygen, gases, and vapors. Attendees have the chance to calibrate and use the instruments. NFPA will award 0.7 Continuing Education Units for each day of instruction.
SPCC 101 - What do you mean, the compliance date has passed..nobody told me?!
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) will host a half day presentation by Mark Howard, US EPA OEM, to discuss the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) regulations (40 CFR 112). Well the compliance date has come on gone (November 10, 2011), what is EPA seeing in the field and what do you need to know. The purpose of this half day presentation is to provide a basic understanding of the SPCC requirements, including recent regulatory amendments. The USEPA will provide an overview of the regulations along with examples and explanations helpful in understanding and applying the regulations and amendments. USEPA encourages interested parties to attend, including regulated facilities, SPCC consultants/planners, and any other persons involved with SPCC compliance. 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM. A unique feature of this course will be a flexible agenda which will be determined by the audience the day of the seminar and the opportunity to stump the regulator with your questions. The seminar will cover both the up and downstream sectors.
