Join Our State Petroleum Council Network
One of the tremendous benefits of API is our network of state offices that provide government relations counsel in 33 states and the District of Columbia. It’s like having an office in your state capital.
These state offices address legislative and regulatory issues impacting the oil and natural gas industry. These offices are staffed with a cadre of seasoned professionals with experience in state government. They not only know the political scene in their state, but they also understand the industry’s issues.
API’s presence in the state allows companies to consistently know the status of both regulatory and legislative issues. This is particularly beneficial to companies with limited government relations staff.
Through its 22 state petroleum council offices and its contractors in the other 11 states, API is represented in 33 state capitals east of the Rocky Mountains.
API members may participate in the State Petroleum Council network and receive representation in all the states where they do business. Each state has its own working group that directs the efforts in that state. Councils also provide assistance to individual member companies when a company has a special non-competitive issue with state government.
The states are divided into three regions:
- Eastern Region includes: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont , Virginia and the District of Columbia.
- Central Region includes: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin
- Southern Region includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia
