2007 Workshop on API Interim Hurricane Bulletins
July 17, 2007
New Orleans Airport Hilton Hotel
New Orleans, Louisiana
July 19, 2007 *
Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel
Houston, Texas
* Houston Workshop immediately following the 2007 Offshore Crane Operations and Safety Conference.
The 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons took their toll on the people and businesses of the Gulf Coast. Immediately following the hurricanes, the petroleum industry worked hard to restore production capabilities while it simultaneously began to undertake a thorough assessment of its operations, practices and standards to identify lessons learned and improvements that could, in the future, lead to less damage to the infrastructure, reduce disruption of energy supplies and allow quicker recovery from severe hurricanes.
The initial result of these activities led by API, in collaboration with members of the industry, are three interim bulletins that will introduce the new hurricane met/ocean conditions for the Gulf of Mexico and address the application of the new met/ocean conditions in conjunction with the present design practices and standards.
The Minerals Management Service (MMS), Gulf of Mexico OCS Region and Herndon office, will be participating in API's Hurricane Bulletin Workshops to present the MMS' perspective of the new released bulletins. MMS will be available to answer questions on the implementation of upcoming NTLs that incorporate these Interim Bulletins.
These workshops will allow for an open dialogue on the current recommendations set forth in the hrricane bulletins between industry and the MMS which will concentrate on the design of new OCS structures and the assessment of existing structures.

- API H.E.A.T. - Paul Versowsky, Chevron
