WASHINGTON, August 6, 2010 – API today announced the following new hires to its advocacy team: Eric Wohlschlegel, Director of Media Relations; Carlton Carroll, Media Relations Representative; Conrad Lass, Senior Director of Federal Relations; Charles Pierce, Tax Counsel, and Brian Johnson, Senior Tax Policy Advisor.
"These new staff additions will have key roles in our growing education outreach efforts on behalf of the oil and natural gas industry—a critical component for our economy and millions of American jobs," said Jack Gerard, president and CEO of API.
Conrad Lass is Senior Director of Federal Relations. Prior to joining API, Lass was Vice President of Legislative Affairs at the Electric Power Supply Association where he was the principal liaison to the Congressional and Executive Branch. He also served as Director of Government Affairs for a multi-national mining company headquartered in London.
Eric Wohlschlegel is Director of Media Relations and will lead media outreach on all issues important to API members. Prior to joining API, Wohlschlegel served as Executive Director of Communications at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a spokesman for the House Commerce Committee.
Brian Johnson is Senior Tax Policy Advisor. He oversees API’s communications on energy tax issues with Congress, API’s members, and the general public. Prior to joining API, Johnson was the federal affairs manager at Americans for Tax Reform where he lobbied on energy policy and financial reform.
Carlton Carroll is a Media Relations Representative. He joins API from the American Forest & Paper Association where he served as Press Secretary. He also served four years in the White House Press Office.
Charles Pierce is Tax Counsel. He works closely with members of the Policy Analysis Department and various member committees to determine the impact of legislative tax proposals.
Brian Johnson and Charles Pierce report to Stephen Comstock, who was recently promoted to Senior Counsel in the Policy Analysis Department.
