API commends House energy and power members for blocking EPA from putting economy and jobs in jeopardy

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2011 – Marty Durbin, API executive vice president, applauded Members of the House Energy and Power Subcommittee who today approved the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, which would prevent EPA actions that could raise energy prices on American consumers and stifle the fragile economic recovery:

“API commends the leadership of Chairman Upton, Subcommittee Chairman Whitfield and those members of the Energy and Power Subcommittee who voted to stand up for American consumers. We are pleased to see this legislation moving forward to prevent EPA from imposing excessive and burdensome regulations that could raise energy costs and harm our fragile economic recovery. Congress, not the EPA, is responsible for setting the energy policy of the United States.”

API represents more than 450 oil and natural gas companies, leaders of a technology-driven industry that supplies most of America’s energy, supports more than 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.5 percent of the U.S. economy, and, since 2000, has invested nearly $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
