API supports pro-job legislation to expand American energy production

WASHINGTON, November 18, 2011 - API strongly supports the American-Made Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, calling it a bill to expand U.S. offshore energy production that will create millions of American jobs.

"America's energy industry stands ready to help put our economy back on track," said Erik Milito, API upstream and industry operations group director. "Expanding America's vast energy resources will create long-term job growth and enhance our nation's energy security. Congress and the president should embrace the industry's ability to strengthen this nation's troubled economy and combat high unemployment.

"Every day the oil and natural gas industry generates about $86 million dollars in federal revenue and we can do more," said Milito. "We have enormous domestic energy resources that can be responsibly produced by Americans for Americans. It's time to get our neighbors to work and boost our economy by creating new tax payers."

API expressed support for U.S. Representative Steve Stivers' (R- OH) and others framework for enhancing the nation's energy security which will create thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars in government revenues.

Milito testified at today's Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources hearing on the American-Made Energy and Infrastructure Job Act. Click here for a copy of his testimony.

API represents more than 480 oil and natural gas companies, leaders of a technology-driven industry that supplies most of America's energy, supports 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.7 percent of the U.S. economy, delivers more than $86 million a day in revenue to our government, and, since 2000, has invested more than $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
