What America is Thinking on Energy Issues
WASHINGTON, November 15, 2011 - A new poll by Public Opinion Strategies and Frederick Polls, commissioned by API, finds that getting the economy moving and creating jobs were the two most important issues to Iowa's general election voters and Republican caucus goers.
The poll found that both general election voters and Republican caucus goers strongly support increased access to domestic oil and natural gas resources. This includes majorities of Republicans, Independents and Democrats.
"Iowa voters strongly agree that increased access to oil and natural gas resources will lead to more American jobs and enhance the country's energy security," said API Executive Vice President Marty Durbin. "It is clear that more and more American voters understand that the oil and natural gas industry plays a crucial role in our economy, and this series of polls shows that energy policy remains top of mind with voters throughout the country."
Key findings of the poll include:
- 79% of Iowa voters favor increased access to domestic oil and natural gas resources.
- 92% of caucus goers favor increased access to domestic energy resources.
- 89% of Iowa general election voters believe that increased access to oil and natural gas resources in North America would lead to more American jobs.
- 96% of Iowa caucus goers believe that increased access to oil and natural gas resources in North America would lead to more American jobs.
The poll was conducted on November 10, 12 & 13, 2011 among 500 likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.38% and an oversample of 421 likely GOP caucus goers with a margin of error of +/- 4.78%.
