Former Congressional Aide Joins API Media Relations Team

WASHINGTON, January 14, 2013 ─ API today announced the addition of Brian Straessle to its media relations team.

“Brian is a proven communicator with invaluable experience in high-profile environments,” said API Director of Media Relations Eric Wohlschlegel. “He understands the incredible benefits oil and natural gas production and refining provide to American families and businesses. We are delighted to have him on the team to help communicate how this industry’s investments help create jobs, grow the U.S. economy, and strengthen our nation’s energy security.”

Straessle comes to API after 5 years with the U.S. House of Representatives, most recently as the Communications Director for the Republican Study Committee. His experiences on Capitol Hill included active roles in congressional debates over energy policy, health care reform, and tax and spending issues.

API is a national trade association that represents all segments of America’s technology-driven oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 500 members – including large integrated companies, exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms – provide most of the nation’s energy. The industry also supports 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.7 percent of the U.S. economy, delivers $86 million a day in revenue to our government, and, since 2000, has invested over $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
