WASHINGTON, June 8, 2017 – API today announced Megan Barnett Bloomgren as its new vice president for communications. Bloomgren most recently served as acting deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Department of the Interior. The current vice president, Linda Rozett, will retire later this month after seven years of service to the top oil and natural gas lobby.

“We are pleased to welcome Megan as our new head of communications,” said Jack Gerard, API President and CEO. “There is no aspect of communications Megan is unfamiliar with, and I am certain her vast energy experience in government and the private sector will make her a tremendous asset to advancing API’s advocacy efforts.”

Bloomgren joins API after directing communications and policy-related actions for Secretary Zinke as acting deputy chief of staff and communications director at the U.S. Department of the Interior. She joined the president’s transition team as a media sherpa to then-Congressman Ryan Zinke when he was announced as the president’s nominee for Secretary of the Interior. Before joining the administration, Bloomgren was a partner at DCI Group, a public affairs consulting firm in Washington, D.C., where she designed and led integrated advocacy campaigns for Fortune 100 companies and trade associations, specializing in message development, crisis communications, and grassroots advocacy.

“I am excited to join a dynamic organization and give voice to an industry whose impact is felt in every household across the country and around the globe,” said Bloomgren. “The energy industry powered by natural gas and oil is pioneering innovations every day that help to meet the world’s challenges more quickly and more efficiently than ever thought possible. I look forward to working with Jack Gerard and API’s talented team to advance the energy industry’s contributions to the policy debate.”

Prior to joining DCI Group in 2011, Bloomgren led strategy and operations for the Institute for 21st Century Energy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She also served as deputy director of public affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy and chief spokesperson for the Secretary of Energy. Bloomgren also worked as a spokesperson for the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, she and her family currently reside in Alexandria, Va.

API is the only national trade association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s more than 625 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 40 million Americans.
