The American Petroleum Institute (API), established in 1919, is the global leader in developing consensus-based standards for the oil and gas industry. Over the past century, API has created more than 800 standards that enhance operational safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. These standards are widely adopted across the industry and increasingly recognized by international regulators.

Developed through an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited process, API standards are known for their technical rigor and third-party validation. Since 1924, API has played a vital role in ensuring product quality, service consistency, and market fairness. API's standards support innovation, promote global acceptance, and are detailed in the latest publication, API Standards: International Usage and Deployment.
