WASHINGTON, August 26, 2016 - Today API announced Mario Salazar has joined the oil and natural gas trade association’s mobilization team as an external mobilization manager.

“Salazar’s extensive on-the-ground experience in issue advocacy will be a great asset to our mobilization team,” said API Executive Vice President Louis Finkel. “He has a perfect background to help strengthen our advocacy efforts, especially at a time when the U.S. is leading the world in the production of oil and natural gas and in reducing carbon emissions.”

Prior to joining API, Salazar worked as Western Regional Field Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee where he oversaw field and outreach operations in the western states. Salazar has also worked at the U.S. Public Interest Research Group as their Federal Legislative Director, as well as on Senator Mark Warner's 2014 reelection campaign and on President Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.

Salazar is a graduate of Cornell University and received a law degree from the New York Law School.

API is the only national trade association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s more than 650 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 30 million Americans.
