NYSPC launches new ad campaign to promote job creation and natural gas development

ALBANY, N.Y., February 1, 2013 – Karen Moreau, executive director of the New York State Petroleum Council (NYSPC), announced the launch of a new campaign to promote bringing safe natural gas development and thousands of reliable, well-paying jobs home to New York. This campaign reflects the NYSPC’s confidence that industry is ready to invest in the state and give New Yorkers the boost they desperately need if Governor Cuomo lifts the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing that is preventing job creation in the state.

“The natural gas industry already supports over 44,000 jobs in the State of New York,” said Moreau. “By allowing safe natural gas development, Governor Cuomo can help to bring an additional 25,000 jobs – the State’s own estimate – to the Southern Tier, where New Yorkers have been struggling economically for years.”

The NYSPC, a division of the American Petroleum Institute, developed the television and radio ads to bring greater focus on the advantages of safe natural gas development, and showcase the support for natural gas development by New Yorkers across the state.

“It’s time New Yorkers have the chance to reap the benefits of safe natural gas development,” said Moreau. “We are confident Governor Cuomo will support this opportunity to bring good paying jobs to the Empire state.”

Recent polls have consistently shown increasing support for development, but the biggest show of confidence came on November 6, 2012, when New Yorkers from the Southern Tier overwhelmingly voted for pro-hydraulic fracturing candidates.

The NYSPC and API represent all segments of America's technology-driven oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 500 members provide most of the nation's energy. The industry also supports 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.7 percent of the U.S. economy, delivers $86 million a day in revenue to our government, and since 2000, has invested over $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
