During recent visits to three universities, my goal was to have conversations with students who might be part of the next generation of the energy workforce – talking with them about energy, global markets, the potential for rewarding careers and the advanced technologies we use to safely and responsibly develop the energy our country needs to grow its economy and increase its security.
I visited with 110 graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Pennsylvania, Tulane (photo below) and Rice universities – many of whom hope to work in the energy industry, and others who recognize the ways energy affects careers in manufacturing, finance, trading and other fields.

College basketball’s big event tips off this week in arenas across the country, all leading up to the NCAA Championship game April 2 in San Antonio. Along the way, underdogs will show some bite and favorites will fall, busting brackets all across the country. Enjoy!
Through it all, one of the MVPs won’t be a star on the tournament’s top-seeded team or someone who hits a buzzer-beater that takes “Cinderella” deep into the Big Dance. The unsung MVP during the madness that is the NCAA tournament will be natural gas and oil.
Let’s look at a number of the roles petroleum plays in almost every aspect of this great game and event.

API’s new advertisement communicates some of the ways natural gas plays an integral role in our daily lives: recreation, jobs, a cleaner environment, time efficiency and invention. And more – much more than we can depict in a 30-second ad. “Natural Gas Doesn’t Just Cook Dinner.” No, indeed.

Summer – like every other season of the year – also is about energy. Natural gas and oil are integrally involved in making our summers cooler, more accessible, safer and better in ways too numerous to count. But we can start with 50. This week we will launch a series of posts – “America’s Summer of Energy” – that shows how energy brings us summer, through the lens of the 50 states.

API’s first-ever Super Bowl ad, announcing the launch of our new “Power Past Impossible” communications campaign, had a few folks online questioning the ad’s connection between oil and space exploration – questions we’ll show are off-base later in this post.
Confusion by some about oil and space flight actually points to the main thrust of the ad and the campaign: Natural gas and oil are much, much more than just fuels. Oil and gas are all around us – in paint, makeup, the components in bionic parts, life-saving medical technology, clean fuels, space suits and … rockets. When you start thinking about it, the list is virtually endless.
