WASHINGTON, December 11, 2015 – The American Petroleum Institute announced this week that Lisa Salley will lead the association’s Global Industry Services (GIS) department as vice president. GIS is the organization’s division responsible for certification, standards, training, events, publications and safety programs for onshore, offshore and refinery operations.

“Our industry’s commitment to safe and reliable operations is a core value,” said API President and CEO Jack Gerard. “Under Lisa Salley’s leadership, API will broaden its innovative safety and operational services to new markets around the world while maintaining the highest ethical practices to secure the API brand as the industry gold standard.”

As one of API’s top executives, Salley will head a 105-person staff responsible for certification, standards, training, events, publications and safety programs for onshore, offshore and refinery operations. GIS has played an increasingly critical role in the international oil and natural gas industry, and the department has offices in Beijing, Dubai, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Houston and Washington, D.C.

“It’s an honor to lead this department and be part of an association that is fully committed to safety,” said Salley. “With support from the entire Global Industry Services team, I’ll be working to grow GIS even further and broaden the availability of gold-standard programs and services tailored to the needs of individual companies in today’s marketplace.”

Immediately prior to joining API, Salley was vice president and general manager of UL’s Energy and Power Technologies Division. As a key member of the UL Commercial and Industrial executive leadership team, she played an important role in the electrical grid and distributive power markets. Under her leadership UL implemented global strategy to ensure safety and to accelerate adoption of new technologies such as renewable energy, energy storage, and cybersecurity. Salley drove profitable top line growth, launched the Renewables Council and managed an M&A pipeline. Prior to joining UL, Salley held senior executive roles at GE and Rohm & Haas. Early career roles were with Dupont.

API is the only national trade association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s 650 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 30 million Americans.
