Oil & Gas Worker Training Opportunities

Understanding best safety practices and being trained in the tasks you are to perform prior to reaching the job site is essential to assure the safety of yourself and those around you.  API member companies have an expectation that workers and contractors are properly trained and competent to carry out their job functions.  The natural oil and gas industry has taken many steps to provide education and training opportunities for its workers.

As part of its API WorkSafe Initiative, API provides convenient and affordable training for onshore oil and gas workers. The E&P Onshore Operations Safety Program provides training on key safety issues found at onshore job sites and includes an examination covering industry safety practices. This program is based on API's E&P Onshore Operations Safety Handbook, and provides awareness-level training on key safety issues found at onshore E&P job sites.

Other Education and Training Opportunities

In addition to API training opportunities, we encourage companies to seek out other training opportunities provided within the industry, including the following:

  • Safeland USA
  • PEC Safety
  • IADC RigPass
  • OSHA Training Courses, including OSHA 5810 Hazards Recognition and Standards for On-Shore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production
  • National Safety Council Safety Training
  • American Industrial Hygiene Association
  • American Society of Safety Engineers
