API RP 577: Introduction to Welding Processes, Inspection, and Metallurgy for Inspectors

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to: (a) Identify and apply API RP 577 standard terminology; (b) Demonstrate the inspector tasks associated with welding inspection; (c) Describe the common welding processes including advantages and limitations of each process; (d) Explain how welding procedure specifications (WPS) and welder performance qualifications relate to ASME Section IX; (e) Define where common weld discontinuities are found during inspection; (f) List the nondestructive examination (NDE) methods commonly used during weld inspection; (g) Recall the reasons for preheating and postweld heat treating welds; (h) Explain how to assess the weldability of a variety of alloys, and; (i) Outline common refinery and petrochemical plant welding issues.
