API Ohio Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Bill
COLUMBUS, OHIO – June 3, 2026 – Today, the American Petroleum Institute (API) Ohio is applauding bipartisan, bicameral support for House Bill 170 to establish state-specific regulations for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology in Ohio. In a bipartisan vote, 92 – 0, the state House concurred with amendments by the Senate and passed the legislation.
“Passage of H.B. 170 is a major step forward for Ohio’s economic competitiveness and environmental progress,” said Christina Polesovsky, associate director of API Ohio. “By clarifying permitting requirements, safety standards, and important landowner protections, this legislation provides the regulatory certainty needed to advance carbon capture projects across the state. We commend lawmakers for supporting a commonsense framework that can drive investment, create jobs and help position Ohio as a leader in lower-carbon innovation.”
H.B. 170 now advances to Gov. Mike DeWine for signature.
