API, AFPM Celebrate Car Freedom Day

WASHINGTON, June 12, 2025 — American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Mike Sommers and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson issued the following statement today as President Trump signed into law a series of bills overturning California's electric vehicle mandates, which prevented consumer choice.

“The President and Congress just delivered a major win for the American people by overturning California’s gas car ban and the state’s attempt to tell consumers what they can and can’t drive. Today's historic signing is critical for protecting U.S. families, manufacturing workers and our national security. We thank President Trump for keeping his promise to American voters to end these extreme and restrictive policies.”
