The API WorkSafe Contractor Safety Program provides construction and maintenance workers at retail petroleum convenience facilities and service stations a general awareness of safety issues and procedures associated with contractor work at these sites.

Contractors who complete the annual online training and pass the final assessments receive an API WorkSafe qualification certificate that demonstrates to operators and station owners their understanding of the skills and knowledge required to work safely at retail petroleum and convenience facilities.

This program addresses key points from API Recommended Practice (RP) 1646, Safe Work Practices for Contractors Working at Retail Petroleum/Convenience Facilities, 2nd Edition, and incorporates industry standards and recommended practices established by the American Petroleum Institute (API), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other state and local regulations.
