API’s Global Industry Services (GIS) division promotes safety, environmental protection, and sustainability across the natural gas and oil industry, globally.

GIS is responsible for standards setting, certification, training, events, publications, and safety programs for industry operations. GIS works with leading industry subject-matter experts to develop and maintain over 700 Standards and Recommended Practices for the natural gas and oil industry that drive safety, environmental protection, and sustainability across industry operations.

Process Safety Assessments (PSSAP)

Center for Offshore Saftey (COS)

Individual Certifications Programs (ICP)

ICP provides the petroleum and petrochemical industries with an independent and unbiased way to evaluate the knowledge and experience of technical and inspection personnel.

Quality Certifications

API Monogram and APIQR

Products with the Monogram mark meet API quality, interchangeability, and reliability standards.

API’s Quality Registrar Program (APIQR) allows companies to register their management systems to API Q1, Q2, 18LCM and ISO.


Engine Oil (EOLCS)

API EOLCS is a voluntary licensing and certification program that authorizes engine oil marketers that meet specified requirements to use the API Engine Oil Marks. Contact: EOLCS@api.org

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

The API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification Program is a voluntary program designed to certify and monitor the quality characteristics of diesel exhaust fluid and marine diesel exhaust fluid. Contact: APIDEF@api.org

Motor Oil Matters (MOM)
