Important Standards Announcements
API Recommended Practice (RP) 65-3, 1st Edition, Wellbore Plugging and Abandonment, has been published. This document provides guidance for the design, placement and verification of cement plugs used in wells that will be temporarily or permanently closed, as well as for well remediation and verification of annular barriers, reinforcing groundwater protection and emissions retention.
API MPMS Chapter 17.10.1 2nd Edition, Measurement of Cargoes On Board Marine Gas Carriers, Part 1 – Liquefied Natural Gas, has been published. This document provides accepted methods for measuring quantities on liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for those involved in the LNG trade on ships and onshore. It includes recommended methods for measuring, reporting and documenting quantities on board these vessels.
API Specification (Spec) 11D1, 4th Edition, Packers and Bridge Plugs has been published. The specification provides manufacturers of packers and bridge plugs guidelines to provide efficient, safe, and sustainable components for operation at production wells.
API Recommended Practice (RP) 97L, Onshore Well Construction Interface Document has been published. The new RP is designed to improve communication between onshore well operators and drilling contractors to enhance overall safety and environmental management planning and provides guidance to improve the types of information shared between a well’s lease owner and the drilling contractor.
API Recommended Practice (RP) 1183, Assessment and Management of Dents in Pipelines has been published. The new RP is designed to help maintain the structural integrity of pipelines by addressing mechanical issues. It gives operators the tools needed to help ensure pipeline infrastructure is safe, reliable, and efficient.
API 520 Part I, 10th Edition, Sizing, Selection, and Installation of Pressure-Relieving Devices in Refineries –Sizing and Selection has been published. The standard provides important sizing procedures that give operators the correct specifications when choosing a pressure-relieving device for their refinery.
API 520 Part II, 7th Edition, Sizing, Selection, and Installation of Pressure-Relieving Devices in Refineries –Installation has been published. The standard includes details of an Engineering Analysis that can be performed to ensure appropriate installation of pressure-relieving devices.
API Specification 2C, 8th Edition, Offshore Pedestal-mounted Cranes, incorporates two new design methodologies related to structural considerations and subsea lifting. API Spec 2C is also part of API’s Monogram program, which certifies the manufacturing process for select products used by the industry.
API RP 2D, 7th Edition, Operation and Maintenance of Offshore Cranes, provides greater insight on the requirements of API RP 2D-2 and is also a companion to API Spec 2C that establishes general principles for the safe operation and maintenance of these offshore cranes. API offers extensive training opportunities on RP 2D across the globe to improve operating techniques and safety.
API RP 2D-2, 1st Edition, Training for Offshore Pedestal-Mounted Crane Riggers, Operators, and Inspectors, establishes guiding principles for training personnel to operate and maintain these cranes. The standard also provides the requirements for personnel to be certified as either a crane operator, rigger, or inspector.
