API Recommended Practice 97L, 1st Ed.

API Recommended Practice (RP) 97L, Onshore Well Construction Interface Document has been published. The new RP is designed to improve communication between onshore well operators and drilling contractors to enhance overall safety and environmental management planning and provides guidance to improve the types of information shared between a well’s lease owner and the drilling contractor.

API Specification 2C, 8th Ed.

API Specification 2C, 8th Edition, Offshore Pedestal-mounted Cranes, incorporates two new design methodologies related to structural considerations and subsea lifting. API Spec 2C is also part of API’s Monogram program, which certifies the manufacturing process for select products used by the industry.

API Recommended Practice 90-1, 2nd Edition

API published the 2nd edition of Recommended Practice (RP) 90-1, Annular Casing Pressure Management for Offshore Wells. This safety standard is used for measuring annular casing pressure at offshore energy facilities. This update seeks to improve monitoring and diagnostic testing for assessing maximum allowable pressure at the annulus and provides guidelines for the upper and lower diagnostic threshold selection.

API Recommended Practice 571, Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry, has been published to provide guidance to pressure equipment integrity personnel. The RP will help in overall management of pressure equipment integrity from identification of damage to conducting examinations.

New API Integrity Management Standards for Offshore Oil and Natural Gas Production

The Integrity Management (IM) standards can help ensure the continued reliable and efficient operation of offshore production platforms, including facilities designed to produce oil and natural gas and export liquefied natural gas (LNG).

These new recommended practices (RP 2MIM, RP 2RIM, and RP 2FSIM) add to API’s suite of existing IM standards, which address the critical need of adopting a systems level approach when developing and operating offshore facilities.

API Recommended Practice 751, 5th Edition

API published the 5th edition of Recommended Practice (RP) 751, Safe Operation of Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation Unit. This RP assists refinery operators in implementing maintenance, integrity management and other safety programs for hydrofluoric (HF) acid alkylation units. The update includes technical changes to reflect advancements in technology and practices.

API published the 3rd edition of Standard (Std) 1164, Pipeline Control Systems Cybersecurity. This standard helps protect pipeline infrastructure through enhanced digital and operational safeguards to improve safety and prevent disruptions along the supply chain. The update includes new requirements on cybersecurity, improved risk assessment guidelines, and more.

Recommended Practice 1169, 2nd Edition

API Recommended Practice 1169, Pipeline Construction Inspection, 2nd Edition, has been published to improve safety and sustainability during a pipeline’s construction activities. The latest update outlines issues pipeline inspectors should review during construction, with a new emphasis on creating effective working relationships between operators, inspectors, and contractors. The scope of covered activities is also expanded in the 2nd Edition to cover all aspects of pipeline construction.

API Specification 5CT, 10th Edition

We are pleased to announce the publications of the 10th edition of Specification 5CT, Casing and Tubing, and the 7th edition of Technical Report 5C3, Calculating Performance Properties of Pipe Used as Casing or Tubing. These new editions provide technical updates that have reached consensus within API’s Subcommittee on Tubular Goods and will now give industry consistent practices in the respective areas of the standards. As part of API’s standards develop program, these updates are reflective of API’s standards program mission to provide a forum for development of consensus-based industry standards, and technical cooperation to improve the industry’s safety performance and competitiveness.
