Recommended Practice 75

The 4th edition of API Recommended Practice 75, Recommended Practice for a Safety and Environmental Management System for Offshore Operations and Assets, provides guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving a safety management system (SEMS) for offshore oil and gas operations. The new edition expands the reach of SEMS globally, to contractors and sub-contractors, as well as acknowledges advancements in technology and advancements to improve risk management.

Recommended Practice 571

API Recommended Practice 571, Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry, has been published to provide guidance to pressure equipment integrity personnel. The RP will help in overall management of pressure equipment integrity from identification of damage to conducting examinations.

API Recommended Practice 755, 2nd Edition

RP 755 provides guidance to employees, managers, and supervisors on understanding, recognizing and managing fatigue in the workplace.  RP 755 also outlines how owners and operators should establish policies and procedures to address these issues in the workplace.

Recommended Practice 1169, 2nd Edition

API Recommended Practice 1169, Pipeline Construction Inspection, 2nd Edition, has been published to improve safety and sustainability during a pipeline’s construction activities. The latest update outlines issues pipeline inspectors should review during construction, with a new emphasis on creating effective working relationships between operators, inspectors, and contractors. The scope of covered activities is also expanded in the 2nd Edition to cover all aspects of pipeline construction.

API Recommended Practice 2001, 10th Edition

The 10th edition of API’s Fire Protection in Refineries, builds on industry experience gained over seven decades and includes: important revisions on hazard analysis; new ways to improve the design of refineries to help prevent fires; and, new information on managing the potential environmental impact of firefighting foams and marine firefighting. API convened experts across the natural gas and oil industry, and collaborated with important stakeholders, including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the United States Coast Guard on important updates made to this safety standard. 

API’s Fire Protection in Refineries, First Edition, appeared in 1933 as the beginning of fire safety guidance series for the “downstream” segment.
