A three-judge panel in New Orleans yesterday struck down the six-month deepwater drilling moratorium which had led to the layoff of thousands of Gulf Coast energy workers.

Early in the hearing, they expressed their heartfelt concern for the 11 men who lost their lives in the Deepwater Horizon tragedy and some briefly described their companies' safety procedures.

At last report, there were hundreds of vessels and more than 25,000 people--scientists, engineers, wildlife experts, shrimpers and others--working together to battle the spill and plug the well.
